run your race, kid! | Huntsville AL children's photographer

One of the things that never ceases to amaze me as a parent is how different my children are from one another. They have the same parents, live in the same house, are forced to eat the same vegetables, follow the same rules, and hear the same corny jokes (lookin' at you, sweet hubby!). But they are so, so different! These differences keep things oh-so-interesting, don't they? It's good for some variety, but man, does it keep you on your toes as a parent (JUST when you thought you'd come up with a foolproof parenting strategy!).

It's fun to ask a kid what they want to be when they grow up, and with such different kids, you know you'll get some different answers.  We currently have one who wants to be a minister (he looks up to his dad so much!), one who wants to be a builder (although I should double check today because it was a "garbage man" just a little bit ago.) And the littlest one, who knows about him quite yet. He can't imagine anything that doesn't involve Hot Wheels cars, so he's gonna need a little more time.

One thing we do tell our kids over and over is to do your best. Whatever it is, wherever you are, do your best. So whatever path each of my boys ends up choosing, hopefully they do it to the best of their ability. They have been made in this unique way for a reason, so I don't want them to waste it.

So run your race, kids! It's so fun to watch your individual strides in this journey of childhood. And goodness knows you'll run it a little (or a lot) differently than your brothers!
